Royal Flush
This is the best possible hand in the game of Poker. It consists of the highest straight of cards that are all the same suit. Don't expect to get this hand very often in your poker playing career. |
Straight Flush
The straight flush is basically a straight and a flush combined. Any 5 cards in sequential order and of the same suit will give you a straight flush.
Four Of A Kind
This one is pretty self explanatory, its simply 4 cards of the same value. This is one of the strongest hands, and is only beat by a straight flush or a royal flush.
Full House
Beating the flush is the full house, which consists of 3 of a kind and a pair. If two players hold a full house, the player holding the highest 3 of a kind will hold the winning hand. |
Flush
If you have 5 cards of the same suit, you have yoruself a flush. Be careful not to become too confused with this ranking, as a flush beats a straight, and not the other way around. |
Straight
Any 5 cards in a row in sequential rank is known as a straight. The higher the straight, the stronger your hand. Aces can play high or low, so you can have A,2,3,4,5 and T,J,Q,K,A as straights. |
Three Of A Kind
This one can also be known as a 'set'. Three of a kind is simply when you hold 3 cards of the same value in your hand. Also be careful not to become confused with this ranking, as a lot of beginners mistake two pair as being stronger than a set.
Two Pair
This one is pretty self explanatory, as it is simply two pairs. Be careful with this hand as it is not as strong as you think, and it can be beaten by a number of other hands. |
Pair
This is one of the most common hands in the game of Poker. If you have two cards of the same rank in your hand, you have yourself a pair. |
High Card
If you have failed to make a pair or better, your hand is ranked by the highest value card you hold. In the example shown, the player holds Ace High and they would not be able to beat any player that held a pair or better. |
